York, United Kingdom, Europe

Completed · Commercial · Heritage Office Retrofit · Temperate · 2023

Refurbishment and extension of the Grade I, II and II* listed York Guildhall on a constrained riverside site, adding offices and a restaurant. SGA Consulting used a water source heat pump drawing on the adjacent River Ouse plus enhancement of the Victorian natural ventilation system. A two-circuit reverse-cycle heat pump delivers 110 kW of simultaneous heating and cooling, giving about 42% carbon savings versus gas boilers. Named 2024 CIBSE Building Performance Champion.
