A 20-storey mass timber building housing a cultural centre, theatre, art museum and hotel, constructed almost entirely from locally sourced Swedish spruce CLT and glulam. The project demonstrated that complex, multi-programme civic buildings at significant height are achievable in mass timber.

Innovation highlights

• 20-storey CLT and glulam primary structure using locally sourced Swedish spruce
• Prefabricated timber cassette floor and wall modules assembled in 14 months
• Cultural centre, theatre, museum and hotel combined within one timber frame
• Carbon sequestration calculated at 9,000 tonnes CO2 stored in structure
