Completed · Education · Active-Learning University Building · Tropical · 2015

Twelve stacked tutorial rooms arranged in a cluster of tapering concrete towers around a naturally ventilated central atrium, eliminating conventional corridors and lecture halls in favour of 56 tutorial rooms each configured for group-based active learning. The building's form drives passive cross-ventilation, reducing air-conditioning to perimeter zones only.

Innovation highlights

  • 56 circular tutorial rooms replacing conventional lecture halls for active learning
  • passive cross-ventilation via central atrium reducing cooling to perimeter only
  • corridor-free plan — all circulation through social atrium
  • pedagogical model embedded in building typology
