Kangaroo Point Green Bridge

Brisbane, Australia, Oceania

Completed · Transport · Cable-Stayed Active Transport Bridge · Tropical · 2024

A 460-metre single-mast cable-stayed bridge across the Brisbane River opened December 2024 exclusively for pedestrians, cyclists and e-mobility users. With a main span of 183 metres it is the longest spanning pedestrian bridge in Australia, and its shade canopy carries solar panels that power the bridge's embedded LED lighting system.

Innovation highlights

  • 183-metre main span — longest pedestrian cable-stay span in Australia
  • solar panels integrated into shade canopy powering all bridge lighting
  • aerodynamically shaped corners to resist Brisbane's high wind conditions without additional damping
  • embedded LED lighting within steel handrails and underdeck
  • rain gardens and native planting for stormwater management at both landings
  • projected to remove 84,000 car trips annually
