Beijing Daxing International Airport

Beijing, China, Asia Pacific

Completed · Transport · Mega-Hub Airport Terminal · Continental · 2019

A single 700,000 sqm terminal designed so that no gate is more than 600m from the central check-in — achieved through a six-pointed radial plan that minimises walking distance at a scale previously thought to require a satellite pier system. The roof is a continuous parametric shell of 8,000 unique steel members spanning column-free over 80,000 sqm.

Innovation highlights

  • radial six-point plan achieving 600m maximum gate walk at mega-hub scale
  • parametric steel shell of 8,000 unique members spanning 80,000 sqm column-free
  • integrated rail station directly below check-in level
  • natural daylight to 100% of boarding gates via roof skylights
