Fire-resistant rooftop PV module with Class A certification for high-risk commercial properties.
LONGi's Hi-MO X10 combines back-contact cell technology, flame-retardant encapsulation, and reinforced sealing to achieve TÜV Rheinland Class A fire rating at mass production scale. It targets warehouses, data centres, and logistics facilities where conventional module fire risk has historically blocked rooftop solar adoption. Internal testing demonstrated thermal resistance to ~1000°C for 1.5 hours without burn-through.
The Hi-MO X10 achieves TÜV Rheinland Class A fire certification at mass-production scale by combining back-contact cells, flame-retardant encapsulation, and reinforced junction sealing — and the primary commercial effect is unlocking rooftop solar on warehouses, data centres and logistics facilities where standard module fire risk has historically blocked insurer or planning approval. Unlike many fire-safety product claims, this certification comes from a recognised independent testing body applied at production volumes rather than in a controlled prototype, which is a meaningful evidential step up. The strategic gap it fills is real: large flat-roof commercial portfolios that have been unable to monetise solar exposure due to fire code constraints now have a compliant path. What a specifier must not infer from the Class A module rating is that the system-level fire risk is resolved — balance-of-system components (inverters, cabling, combiner boxes, DC isolators) remain the dominant ignition sources in real-world rooftop PV fires, and the module rating does not extend to those elements. Long-term durability of the flame-retardant encapsulation under 25-year UV exposure and thermal cycling is not yet characterised, and independent field failure data beyond manufacturer testing is absent; the premium over standard modules is also undisclosed. This is a credible product for high-risk facilities at the procurement stage, provided the BOS fire strategy is addressed in parallel.
Announcement made 9 March 2026 at SUCE (China). TÜV Rheinland Class A certification claim stated but no independent certificate, test report, or third-party validation provided in source. Internal lab test (~1000°C, 1.5 hrs) is manufacturer-controlled and unverified. European availability stated as 'to be communicated in due course' — no timeline, no production dates, no customer deployments disclosed. No field performance data, no independent fire-test verification, no cost data provided. Announcement is credible in intent but lacks evidence of regulatory approval, independent validation, or real deployment.
