Thin, uniform-emitting OLED panels for integrated luminous surfaces in interiors and facades.

OLED panels emit light uniformly across their entire surface rather than from discrete point sources, delivering 60–80 lm/W efficacy and >50,000 h lifetime. They address discomfort glare and visual fatigue in premium interiors (healthcare, hospitality, galleries) by enabling low-luminance, diffuse light integrated directly into ceilings, walls, and furniture. Thin-film versions are entering facade pilot deployments.

OLED panels emit light uniformly across their entire surface area rather than from point sources, producing diffuse, glareless output with UGR below 10 — a quality of light that is genuinely difficult to achieve with LED without diffusers that reduce efficacy. At 60–80 lm/W and a claimed 50,000-hour lifetime they are not technically inferior to LED per se, but the cost-per-lumen remains significantly higher, which restricts them to premium applications where the light quality itself is the specification driver: galleries, healthcare, high-end hospitality. The thin-film facade deployment route is early-stage, with no published weather exposure, UV durability, or thermal cycling data; it would be premature to specify OLED on a facade without manufacturer-backed performance guarantees that do not yet appear to exist in the public domain. Supply chain depth is a real constraint — manufacturing capacity for building-scale deployments is limited, and no integration protocols with BMS or smart lighting control systems have been documented, which matters for compliance with CIBSE Code L handover requirements. The honest position is that OLED is a proven light-quality solution for interior premium applications with clear installation pathways, and a speculative one for everything else; the facade and furniture integration story is compelling but not yet ready for live project commitment without substantial supplier engagement.
