Using locally made brick and regional craft labour to build low pavilions is a straightforward cost and supply-chain decision that has centuries of precedent in the relevant climate zones, and the thermal mass argument — that brick moderates diurnal temperature swings passively — is well grounded in building physics. Embedding the building in its rural context through material choice also has a legitimate wellbeing and community-economy value that reaches beyond the technical. That said, the evidence sits entirely in the project team's own claim, with no post-occupancy thermal data, no cost comparison against alternatives, and no account of the specific brick specification, wall thickness or finish that would let another team replicate the performance. The practical questions for a specifier are workmanship consistency and quality control across a self-build or community-labour context, durability of unfinished exposed brick in driving-rain or high-humidity conditions, and whether the thermal mass actually delivers comfort without supplementary ventilation in the specific orientation and programme of use.
