The promise is compelling: data that reveals underused zones, ventilation failures and poor indoor air quality before occupant complaints, enabling evidence-driven facilities management rather than reactive maintenance. The chronic failure mode is equally well-documented: sensors get installed, dashboards get built, and then no one uses them because facilities teams lack the training, time or contract incentive to act on the data, turning a technology investment into shelfware.
