Electrifying heat via air-source heat pumps and partially offsetting demand with rooftop PV is the standard decarbonisation kit for institutional buildings pursuing net-zero-in-operation, and it is directionally correct: removing a gas connection removes the operational carbon and regulatory exposure of a fossil fuel supply at a time when carbon pricing trajectories make that exposure increasingly material.
