A cast in-situ concrete wall mixes local limestone, granite and sandstone aggregates with pigments, then is finished with surface retardant and post-strike jet-washing to expose a layered, strata-like texture echoing the local geology. Sourcing aggregate locally roots the material in place. The technique gives a rich, tactile concrete without applied cladding.

The trade-offs are primarily in the quality control and cost of achieving consistent results across a large concrete pour: surface retardant behaviour varies with ambient temperature, curing conditions and exact mix proportions, and a single pour with poor retardant application can produce a different texture to adjacent sections.
