Extending usable floor area through a shaded, naturally ventilated outdoor veranda rather than conditioning additional enclosed space is a climate-appropriate response in hot-humid settings where relative humidity rather than temperature is often the dominant comfort driver. By keeping the veranda unconditioned, the approach avoids the paradox common in tropical hospitality design of air-conditioning an outdoor experience into discomfort, and reduces the total cooled floor area — directly cutting the installed cooling plant capacity and running energy.
