Over 26,000 sq ft of cleanroom is graded from ISO 7 down to the very demanding ISO 3, letting different research groups share infrastructure while each works at its required cleanliness. Stacking cleanroom grades from ISO 7 down to ISO 3 within a single 26,000-square-foot facility allows diverse nanoscience groups to share infrastructure — building circulation, gowning areas, exhaust plant, HVAC backbone — while each works at the cleanliness level their processes require, which is a genuine cost efficiency argument at this scale compared with building separate facilities or over-specifying the whole volume to ISO 3. The critical design challenge is contamination cascade: cleaner zones must be protected from particulate migration out of less-clean zones, which requires airlocks, pressure differentials and gowning protocols to function correctly every time, across every user, across the building life. ISO 3 is a genuinely demanding standard — particle counts of up to 35 particles per cubic metre at 0.5 microns — and maintaining it in a shared building requires operational discipline that goes well beyond the physical design. There is no evidence data attached to this record so the claimed operational functionality and cost rationalisation are engineering-level assertions; a specifier should treat the building's commissioning programme and the research community's operational protocols as co-equal deliverables with the MEP design, because ISO 3 certification depends on both.
