Consolidating a higher-education college from six dispersed urban sites into a single 17-storey tower addresses a genuinely difficult brief: a constrained city plot, a wide range of accommodation types from classrooms to workshops to archive storage, and a client needing operational coherence across what were previously separate buildings. Stacking is not a novel idea, but doing it across this range of uses at this height — reportedly the tallest higher-education building in the UK — is a meaningful precedent for institutions facing land scarcity.
